HORSERACING – Evening Blossom emerged triumphant in the fillies and mares handicap race – the latest event in the Dublin To Bahrain Series 2024, held at Leopardstown Racecourse in Ireland.
Owned by Brian Dolan, the Joseph Patrick O’Brien-trained steed clinched a narrow victory in the eight-furlong contest. Jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle was in the saddle and he steered the three-year-old to the lead inside the final furlong. They kept on well from there, and did just enough to secure the victory.
Evening Blossom won by a neck’s length ahead of runner-up Vivienda, competing for owners Juddmonte, trainer G M Lyons, and jockey Colin Keane; while Declaree came third for Newtown Anner Stud Farm Ltd, J P Murtagh, and Ben Coen.
A total of eight runners took part in the event.
The fillies and mares handicap was the fourth installment of this year’s Dublin to Bahrain Series 2024. Two of the three previous events were also handicap races, won by Tokenomics and Longbourn. The other was The Bahrain Turf Club Desmond Stakes Group Three race, won by Mutasarref.
Three races remain in the series, including The Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes (Group One) on September 14, and The Bahrain Turf Club Knockaire Stakes (Listed) and Bahrain Turf Club October Premier Handicap, both on October 20. All events are being held at Leopardstown.
The winners of the four handicap events will be automatically eligible to compete in the Bahrain Turf Series as part of the highly anticipated 2024-25 season at Bahrain Turf Club.
The upcoming campaign heralds in a new chapter in the evolution and growth of horseracing in the kingdom, with the installation of floodlights and an expansion of the Bahrain Turf Series to an overall value to over $1 million.
