Team Bahrain Victorious rider Antonio Tiberi took over as white jersey holder yesterday after the fourth stage in the 2024 Vuelta a Espana – the third Grand Tour event of the international road cycling season.
Tiberi finished eighth overall on the 170.5-kilometre stage, which got underway in the Spanish city of Plasencia and ended in Pico Villuercas mountain range.
That was enough to give him a five-place bump to the top spot in the best young rider rankings for the race’s white jersey. He however has a slim, three-second lead from Lennert Van Eetvelt of Lotto Dstny team.
Tiberi’s stage finish in the top 10 also helped him rise 13 spots to fourth overall in the general classification (GC). The Italian is just 38 seconds off GC leader and yellow jersey holder Primoz Roglic of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe team.
Tiberi is also the best Bahrain Victorious rider in the points rankings for the green jersey in 32nd place.
Amongst the team’s other members yesterday, Australian Jack Haig was 17th in the leg while Italian Damiano Caruso came 45th. Four others finished together from 128th to 131st, respectively, namely Croatian Fran Miholjevic, German Jasha Sutterlin, Norwegian Torstein Traen, and Austrian Rainer Kepplinger. Pole Kamil Gradek rounded out the team’s finishers yesterday in 145th.
In the team’s rankings, Bahrain Victorious rose two spots to fifth overall amongst the 22 competing squads.
