HORSERACING – Three Bahrain-owned horses emerged triumphant yesterday in international races held in Europe.
Victorious Racing’s Force And Valour, owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, clinched the win in the EBF Maiden Stakes race, which was held at Thirsk Racecourse in England.
Magnum Force, owned by Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) honorary president Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, took first place in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden race, held at Cork Racecourse Mallow in Ireland.
Jewelry, owned by REHC High Committee chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, was also a winner, taking the British EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Newbury Racecourse in England.
All three steeds won their respective events amongst high-quality fields featuring horses with leading global connections.
At Thirsk, Force And Valour took first place after six furlongs amongst a field of 10 for Victorious Racing and Fawzi Nass.
Trained by George Scott, the two-year-old was ridden by jockey Oisin Orr. They were prominent from the start and led after the first furlong. They kept on well throughout the race to take the win by a length-and-a-half from runner-up Mr Cool, competing for Middleham Park Racing, Charlie Johnston, and Joe Fanning. Harswell Ruby was third for Harswell Thoroughbred Racing, Roger Fell and Sean Murray, and Billy Garritty.
At Cork, Magnum Force gave Shaikh Abdulla a fine victory in the five-furlong challenge that featured 14 competitors.
The G M Lyons-trained contender had jockey Colin Keane in the saddle. They were in touch with the leaders at the beginning but gained the lead inside the final furlong. The two-year-old went on to win with a comfortable one-and-three-quarters-length gap ahead of Bobbi Rosa in second, racing for owner Damien Moore and jockey Andrew Slattery, who was also the trainer. Lightning Bear came third for Jack Davison Racing Club, Jack W Davison, and Wesley Joyce.
Meanwhile, at Newbury, Jewelry clinched the victory for Shaikh Isa and trainer William Haggas, while ridden by jockey Cieren Fallon.
The two-year-old was slowly away at the start of the six-furlong event but gained some headway two furlongs out. Jewelry then led with one furlong to go, edging left but keeping on and taking the win with a two-and-a-half length’s gap from runner-up Toomuchforme, competing for owners Newtown Anner Stud Farm Ltd, trainer K R Burke, and jockey Clifford Lee. Musical Angel came third for J C Smith, Andrew Balding, and David Probert amongst the race’s 13 runners.
Amongst other Bahrain-owned horses yesterday, Victorious Racing’s Queen Of Soldier came sixth for trainer Roger Varian and jockey James Doyle in the At The Races App Market Movers Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Wolverhampton Racecourse.
Adrestia, owned by Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s KHK Racing, took 11th for Simon and Ed Crisford and Callum Shepherd in the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing St Hugh’s Stakes Listed Race, also at Newbury.
