CYCLING – Team Bahrain Victorious rider Matevz Govekar claimed an impressive fifth place finish yesterday on the fifth and final stage of the Vuelta a Burgos in Spain.
The Slovenian was amongst the leaders’ group in the 156-kilometre leg’s concluding sprint. Pavel Bittner of the Czech Republic took the stage victory for Team dsm-firmenich PostNL in three hours 24 minutes 28 seconds.
Amongst Bahrain Victorious’ other riders yesterday, Italian Antonio Tiberi was ranked 49th, Croatian Fran Miholjevic was right behind in 50th, Norwegian Torstein Traen was 56th, Pole Kamil Gradek was 92nd, and German Jasha Sutterlin came 117th.
In the race’s general classification after five stages, Traen was the team’s best rider in 17th overall. Tiberi followed in 32nd while Miholjevic came 65th. Sepp Kuss of Team Visma-Lease a Bike was the overall winner. In the event’s other rankings, Govekar came 11th in the points standings and Tiberi finished 13th amongst the best young riders.
The Vuelta a Burgos was part of this year’s UCI ProSeries – the second-tier road cycling tour under the UCI World Tour.
