HORSERACING – THREE horses with Bahrain connections raced to impressive results yesterday in international events in the UK.
Khaldiya claimed a runner-up finish at Great Yarmouth Racecourse competing for KHK Racing, owned by Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Meanwhile, She’s A Warrior took third place at Kempton Park Racecourse for Victorious Racing, owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and SCYS chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa; while Al Ameed, owned by Horse Welfare Authority chairman Shaikh Duaij bin Salman Al Khalifa, claimed third place in another race at Kempton.
At Yarmouth, Khaldiya took second place in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes event, run over six furlongs. The Roger Varian-trained steed was ridden yesterday by Silvestre De Sousa, and the two-year-old was narrowly pipped at the end. Raneenn won by a neck for owner Shaikh Ahmed Al Maktoum, trainer William Haggas and jockey Harry Burns. In third place was Scattering Light, competing for Godolphin, Charlie Appleby, and Daniel Tudhope.
At Kempton, She’s A Warrior finished third in the Novice Stakes Division II race. Trained by Varian and ridden by James Doyle, the three-year-old finished behind winner Radian Beauty, racing for Scott Turner, Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole, and Kieran Shoemark; and runner-up Port Road, competing for Newton Anner Stud Farm Ltd, John Butler, and Daniel Muscutt after eight furlongs.
For Al Ameed, the three-year-old claimed a top-three finish in the Novice Stakes Division I race. Trained by Simon and Ed Crisford, jockey Harry Davies was in the saddle. Also in an eight-furlong run, hey finished behind the top two of Arabian Light, competing for Godolphin, Appleby, and William Buick; and Running Spirit, racing for DP Howden, John and Thady Gosden, and Oisin Murphy.
