HORSERACING – BRADSELL triumphed yesterday in an international horserace in Deauville, France, competing for Bahrain’s Victorious Racing, owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Bradsell headlined a series of impressive results across Europe by horses with connections to the kingdom.
Also taking first place was Qaseem at Haydock Park Racecourse in the UK, where others also had impressive results.
At Deauville yesterday, Bradsell clinched first place in the Prix du Cercle-Prix Hipodromo de la Gavea Listed race, held over five furlongs.
The three-year-old, trained by Archie Watson and ridden yesterday by Hollie Doyle, was prominent in the run from the start. They led two furlongs out and won by a length-and-three-quarters ahead of runner-up Coeur De Pierre, competing for owner Ahmed Mouknass, trainer Mauricio Delcher-Sanchez, and jockey Maxime Guyon. Mgheera came third representing European Bloodstock Management, Mme Manon, and Guillaume Millet.
At Haydock, Qaseem took the win in the Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Nursery Handicap, held over six furlongs. Qaseem triumphed for owner Ebrahim Al Afoo, trainer Karl Burke, and jockey Clifford Lee.
Airspeed came second for Clipper Logistics, Burke, and Daniel Tudhope; while Educating Rita was third for Elwick Stud, Michael Dods, and Connor Beasley.
At the same meeting, four horses with Bahrain connections were amongst 12 runners in the Cure Leukemia Restricted Maiden Stakes.
Zayer, owned by Al Afoo, was second after six furlongs of racing for trainer Watson and jockey Joshua Bryan. Zayer finished a length behind winner Leonardo Dax, competing for owner Valmont, trainer Patrick Owens, and Hector Crouch.
Peninsula Power came fifth for Hasan Mefareh Alajmi, Richard Fahey, and Jack Garritty; while Baather was sixth for Al Mohamediya Racing, Clive Cox, and David Egan. Badge of Honor came ninth for Redha Munfaredi, Simon and Ed Crisford, and Callum Shepherd to round out the Bahrain-connected challengers.
