HORSERACING – TWO horses with Bahrain connections claimed top-three finishes yesterday in top races held in Europe.
Dilawar, competing for Victorious Racing, owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, clinched third place in the Px du P ‘Auge-9th et. DDG-Georges Camprubi-Swing Am. des Annees 40 (Listed Race) at Deauville-Clairefontaine Racecourse in France.
Meanwhile, Nazron, owned by Hasan Mefareh Alajmi, took third place in the Sensee Operations Ltd T/A TCC Handicap event at Chester in England.
At Clairefontaine, Dilawar was competing amongst eight runners over nine furlongs. The seven-year-old, trained by Carlos and Yann Lerner and ridden by Stephane Ladjadj, finished behind victor Left Sea, competing for owners Wertheimer and Frere, and runner-up Euboa, racing for Erich Schwaiger.
At Chester, Nazron raced amongst nine contenders. The Roger Varian-trained three-year-old, with Ray Dawson in the saddle, finished the event behind winner Paws For Thought, owned by Carol Shaw, and second-placed Accural, racing for Mr and Mrs Middlebrook.
Also at Chester yesterday, Double Jump came fourth in the Servus Handicap race for owners Al Mohamediya Racing, trainer Clive Cox and jockey Jack Doughty.
At Ascot Racecourse, Definitive, owned by Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, finished fifth in the Princess Margaret Stakes (Group Three) event for Cox and jockey Tom Marquand.
