HORSERACING – VICTORIOUS Racing, owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, triumphed yesterday in a pair of international horseraces in the UK.
Phantom Flight and Mission Command – both George Scott-trained steeds – powered to impressive wins in their respective events.
Phantom Flight took first place in the Steventon Stakes (Listed Race) at Newbury Racecourse, while Mission Command claimed the win in the Dobsons Gaskets EBF Maiden Stakes at Ripon Racecourse.
Victorious Racing continued to rack up impressive results in top-class turf races across Europe with yesterday’s wins.
At Newbury, Callum Shepherd rode Phantom Flight to a strong showing in their 10-furlong event, which featured five runners.
Racing amongst the leaders from the onset, Phantom Flight powered to the lead and never looked back after the first furlong, holding on until the end. The five-year-old victor won with a full length’s gap ahead of runner-up Al Aasy, racing for Shadwell Estate Company, trainer Tom Marquand, and jockey William Haggas. Sons and Lovers finished third for H Morriss and Miss K Rausing and Jane Chapple-Hyam, while ridden by Hollie Doyle.
In Ripon, Mission Command won amongst a field of 10 runners, competing over a distance of five furlongs.
With jockey Oisin Orr in the saddle, the two-year-old Victorious Racing horse had a dominant ride. They pushed out to the lead over the opening furlong and ran well over the remainder of the race, winning by two-and-three-quarter-lengths in front of Ziggy’s Triton in second place, competing for owners Middleham Park Racing, trainer David O’Meara, and jockey David Nolan. Blue Point Express came third for Jaber Abdullah, Charlie Johnston, and Joe Fanning.
Meanwhile, another Victorious Racing contender, Battle Queen, finished a narrow second in the British Stallion Studs EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap, also held at Newbury.
The eight-furlong event featured seven entrants, and Battle Queen came up just short of first place, finishing three-quarters-of-a-length behind winner Circe. Oisin Murphy was in the saddle for the Andrew Balding-trained three-year-old.
Circe was racing for owners Pineapple Stud And Miss C Douglas and trainer Richard Hannon, while ridden by Doyle. Sunfall took third place for Cheveley Park Stud, William Haggas, and Tom Marquand.
