On the occasion of the 126th anniversary of the birth of the Filipino nation, Philippines Ambassador Anne Jalando-On Louis has issued the following message:
“On June 12, 2024, we will celebrate the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
“On this occasion, we remember the birth of the Filipino nation on June 12, 1898 when General Emilio Aguinaldo unfurled the Philippine flag for the first time in Kawit, Cavite, Philippines.
“We also remember our nation’s heroes and the valiant men and women who fought for freedom for the Philippines, unwavering in their spirit and resilience amidst great challenges and adversity.
“We take pride in our long and rich history as a sovereign state and as a member of the international community.
“We have been at the forefront, either as a lead or a proponent, in the global discourse supporting peace and security, social and gender equity, migration, climate change and other global issues.
“As the earliest modern democracy and republic in Asia, the Philippines continues to uphold democratic ideals and principles, universal human rights, justice, the rule of law and the values of freedom and sovereignty.
“Through our country’s journey, the Philippines has built strong ties with many other nations, including the Kingdom of Bahrain.
“The Philippines’ long standing relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain have been characterised by friendship, respect and understanding. Since the formal establishment of relations between our two countries in 1978, we have been partners in advancing mutual interests through bilateral co-operation across various fields including trade, culture and the arts, skills training, people-to-people exchanges, migration and employment, among others.
“We thank His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the government and people of Bahrain for their support and contributions that further enhance our bilateral ties.
“To my kabayans in Bahrain, I wish you all a meaningful and successful commemoration of Philippine Independence. May we take heed of the reminder that it is only in unity and solidarity as a community and as a nation that we will be able to achieve our collective goals and safeguard our interests in the true bayanihan spirit.
“Maligayang Araw ng Kasarinlan! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Mabuhay and Pilipino!”
