FOOTBALL – THE largest football festival in the kingdom took place over the weekend in celebration of World Football Day.
The event was organised by the General Sports Authority (GSA) in co-operation with the Bahrain Football Association (BFA), and it took place at the BFA pitches in Riffa.
It was held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, GSA chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
In attendance were GSA vice-president Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, BFA president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, along with other dignitaries.
Members of Bahrain’s senior men’s and women’s national teams were present, among them being the kingdom’s most-capped international player Sayed Mohammed Jaafar, the men’s national team’s all-time top scorer Ismaeel Abdullatif, and women’s national team star Hessa Al Isa.
The festival witnessed a wide participation of football players of all ages. The programme included a mini-football tournament, and various skill challenges such as passing, shooting, defensive skills, and the like.
