Environmental champions want to create a database of Bahrain’s marine species to measure the current state of fish stocks and other aquatic creatures that may be nearing extinction.
Parliament’s legislative and legal affairs committee chairman Mohsin Al Asbool, who is spearheading the move, said the study would determine the extent of damage caused to coral reefs and other underwater habitats by excessive fishing, trawling, dredging, drilling and land reclamation operations .
