A new state-of-the-art in vitro fertilisation (IVF) clinic featuring the latest technology in the field has been unveiled at King Hamad American Mission Hospital (KHAMH) in A’ali and will shortly be accepting its first patients.
The Fertility and ART Centre was inaugurated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Health Minister Dr Jalila Al Sayyed, Supreme Council for Health chairman Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, KHAMH corporate chief executive Dr George Cheriyan, National Health Regulatory Authority CEO Dr Mariam Al Jalahma and other members of hospital staff and officials.
The attendees were taken on a tour of the centre by embryologist Dr Mariam Dashti.
The new centre will provide everything patients need ahead of the procedure, plus a comfortable waiting room, including a private area.
Patients will first talk to a well-qualified doctor in private consultation rooms, who can offer expert advice ahead of any medical procedures.
Those recommended for treatment will undergo the necessary processes in a private and comfortable treatment room.
The hospital said it would be utilising the latest technology and medical equipment taking into account developing advances in the field to offer the ‘most efficient service possible’.
IVF is one of several techniques available to help people with fertility problems have a baby. During IVF, an egg is removed from the woman’s ovaries and fertilised with sperm in a laboratory. The fertilised egg – called an embryo – is then returned to the woman’s womb to grow and develop.
Speaking at the opening, Lt Gen Dr Shaikh Mohammed congratulated the hospital for its latest investment saying he was ‘very impressed’ following the tour.
“The technology available is clearly the best of the best,” he added. “Everything is set up for the convenience and comfort of the patients.
“I have no doubt that the new facility will run smoothly and that patients from Bahrain and abroad will receive top quality care.”
The centre is the latest endeavour of the hospital, which opened in January, as part of its efforts to provide the best possible service to patients in the country.
The clinic will officially open tomorrow. “This is a unique, specialised centre, which will be particularly associated with helping to improve women’s health,” said Dr Cheriyan.
“We have invested in the latest technology and the facilities, in my opinion, are not only the best in Bahrain but probably across the entire GCC.”
