A man in Vietnam was in for quite the surprise of his life when he went to the hospital complaining about headaches and a pair of chopsticks was found lodged in his brain.
The unnamed 35-year-old Vietnamese man had reportedly been suffering from severe headaches, fluid discharge and fluid loss for more than five months. When he finally decided to get a medical opinion, he visited the Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi.
Doctors at the hospital conducted CT scans and diagnosed him as suffering from tension pneumothorax, a rare but incredibly dangerous neurological condition that is caused by a sudden increase in intracranial pressure.
Further tests to determine the source of the problem led to a startling discovery: the man had a pair of chopsticks that had apparently been crammed up his nose and were now stuck in his brain.
While initially dumbfounded, the man eventually recalled that he had been involved in a bar fight some time ago. He recalled that he had been stabbed in the face during the fight with an unknown object. However, when he went to the hospital after the fight, doctors didn't find any abnormalities with his nose.
The doctors were able to remove the chopsticks via an endoscopic surgery through the nose. The patient is reportedly in stable condition and is waiting to be discharged from the hospital.
