GCC foreign ministers have regretted the failure of the UN Security Council (UNSC) to adopt a resolution aiming to end Israel’s grave violations against Gaza civilians.
This came in a letter sent by Oman’s Foreign Minister and GCC Ministerial Council current session chairman Bader Al Busaidi to Brazil’s Permanent Representative at the UN Sergio Danese, whose country currently holds the presidency of the UNSC.
The message reiterated the GCC states’ keenness and commitment to working with the UNSC to adopt a resolution that puts an end to the crisis and its repercussions, in accordance with the international resolutions, treaties and laws, including the Security Council Resolutions (242) and (338), which confirm the international consensus on resolving this conflict, on the basis of the two-state solution, and enables Palestinians and Israelis live side by side in security and peace.
GCC Secretary General Jasem AlBudaiwi said that the letter also covered a recently announced pledge worth $100 million to offer urgent relief aid for Gaza.
Mr AlBudaiwi said the GCC foreign ministers would meet Brazil’s Permanent Representative and members of the UNSC in New York to hold urgent discussions in this regard.
He affirmed the unified Gulf position and stressed the necessity of all parties’ commitment, especially Israel, to stopping all illegal acts and fully complying with international and humanitarian law.
The letter also underlined the importance of immediately releasing hostages and detainees, and the categorical condemnation of the targeting of civilians.
