A gang of beggars who used number plates from neighbouring countries to target citizens of those countries to part with their money, has been arrested by Dubai Police.
The suspects would install the number plates and target citizens claiming to be compatriots, the police said, adding that they even used women and children to evoke sympathy.
It was not immediately clear how the suspects obtained the number plates, Khaleej Times reported.
The General Department of Criminal Investigations director Major-General Jamal Salem Al Jallaf said beggars typically target people near mosques, clinics, hospitals, shops and roads.
He warned residents about “deceptive tactics used by beggars to exploit people's emotions and earn money illegally”.
