ArgentinIan Juan Antonio Pizzi will be the new head coach of the Bahrain’s national football team, Bahrain Football Association (BFA) secretary general Rashed Al Zaabi has announced.
The BFA board approved Pizzi as the head coach of the national team after considering different options and reviewing other coaches’ credentials.
The association’s executive management, on the instructions of BFA chairman Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and deputy chairman Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, has prepared an initial agreement with Pizzi. Both parties have agreed on the contracts’ terms and conditions.
Al Zaabi said that the new coach is scheduled to arrive in Bahrain in the second half of this month to sign his contract and commence work.
He added that Pizzi will be at the helm of the technical management of the national team, along with an assistant coaching staff that will be contracted based on Pizzi’s recommendation.
The BFA secretary general emphasised that the coaching staff will consist of qualified sports professionals who will support the coach’s vision and technical approach. He also wished Pizzi and his team success in their upcoming tasks.
He said that the coach’s impressive resume and knowledge of Asian football made him the preferred choice to lead the national team.
Pizzi, who coached Saudi Arabia from November 2017 to January 2019, has been functioning as the coach of UAE Pro League club Al Wasl. Born in Argentina, Pizzi represented the Spain national team for four years, appearing with it in one World Cup and one European Championship. He embarked on a managerial career after retiring, winning the Copa América Centenario for Chile in 2016.
