ROYAL Endurance Team members took first place in the Spanish International Endurance Championship yesterday in the general and junior categories over a distance of 120km, which witnessed the participation of a number of top class riders.
Salman Isa emerged winner in the general category, followed by teammates Manal Al Fakhrawi in second place and Ahmed Al Thawadi third, while Abdullah Al Ruwaei won first place in the junior category.
Isa clocked six hours, seven minutes and 41 seconds, followed by Fakhrawi in 06:07:42 and Al Thawadi 06:07:46.
Al Ruwaei outclassed other top riders in the junior category clocking 06:59:14. All the winners were honoured at the end of the championship.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa congratulated the riders on their brilliant performance.
“This victory builds on the achievements of the Royal Team in international and European forums,” he said, commanding the role of His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Royal Endurance Team captain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Khalid participated in the 160km contest but his horse failed to pass the veterinary examination after the first stage of the race. He followed up the other team riders and motivated them to achieve positive results in both races.
The Royal Team members hailed the support of Shaikh Nasser which motivated them to achieve positive results in the Spanish championship.
They also hailed Shaikh Khalid’s directives during the different phases of the race which enabled them to achieve honourable results.
