The family of a 35-year-old man in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh had the shock of their lives when he showed up at their house, two years after they performed his last rites.
Kamlesh Patidar knocked on the door of his maternal aunt's house in Karodkala village at around 6am, almost two years after he was declared to have died from Covid-19, a family member said.
Mr Patidar was admitted to a hospital when he fell ill during the second Covid-19 wave and doctors later declared him dead.
His "body" was handed to the family and his last rites were performed, his cousin Mukesh Patidar told reporters on Saturday.
"Now, he has returned home but he has not revealed anything about where he stayed during this period," he added.
Family members told Kanwan police station in-charge Ram Singh Rathore he suffered from the coronavirus infection in 2021 and was admitted to a hospital in Vadodara, Gujarat.
They only found out he was alive when he returned home on Saturday.
Police will record Mr Patidar's statement, the official said.
