A Chinese man has been sentenced to six months in prison and one year probation after he was found guilty of scaring 1,100 chickens to death!
Reports revealed that the man, only identified as Gu, had been quarrelling with his neighnour Zhong after the latter cut down his trees without permission in April 2022.
The court found that Gu had entered Zhong’s chicken farm at night on more than one occasion, using a flashlight that caused the birds to panic and crowd into a corner, as hundreds died in the ensuing crush.
Five hundred chickens died in the first instance and Gu was forced to pay Zhong a compensation of 3,000 yuan ($436).
The second instance caused the death of 640 chickens; with the Hengyang court ruling that Gu had intentionally caused “property loss” to Zhong.
Authorities estimated that the dead chickens were worth a total of 13,840 yuan ($2,015).
