The opening race of the 2022/2023 horseracing calendar was organised by the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) at the club’s racetrack in the Al Raffah area in Sakhir in the presence of Shaikh Turki bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa and Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa, vice-president of the Supreme Council for Environment and REHC vice-chairman.
Royal Family members and fans of equestrian sport attended the nine-round race which was held for the cups of the late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Turki bin Rashid presented the trophy of the Opening Day Cup for the ninth round to winning jockey Paul Hanagan, and that of the seventh round to winning trainer Allan Smith.
Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid presented the trophy for the eighth round to Shaikh Khalid bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Isa bin Rashid crowned jockey Ibrahim Nader, the winner of the first round, and Hadi Ibrahim Al-Afoo, for the sixth round.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Ibrahim bin Rashid presented the trophy of the second round to assistant trainer Mohammed Haidar Ibrahim.
Shaikh Khalid bin Turki crowned jockey Salim Al Ajmi, the winner of the third round, while Shaikh Isa bin Faisal presented the trophy of the fifth round to Shaikh Sultanuddin bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa.
