A 27-year-old Russian rapper has died by suicide, jumping off a high-rise building in Krasnodar on Friday to avoid being drafted to fight in the Ukraine war.
Ivan Vitalievich Petunin who went by the stage name “walkie”, threw himself off the tenth floor of an apartment building, after declaring on video that he was "not ready to kill for any ideals."
Before he took the tragic leap, Mr Petunin recorded a suicide video of himself that was posted to his Telegram channel.
In a translated version of the video posted by TMZ, he says, "If you are watching this video, then I am no longer alive. I can’t take the sin of murder on my soul and I don’t want to. I am not ready to kill for any ideals. To murder someone in war or otherwise is something I cannot do. It seems to me that partial mobilisation will become full in a few days."
"Forgive me, my loved ones, but sometimes you have to die for your principles,” the tragic message continued. My last decision is exactly how I die."
