His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian works and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa added a new accomplishment to Bahrain’s endurance sport after being crowned the champion of the 160km race which was held as part of the Windsor Equestrian Championship.
Shaikh Nasser crossed the finish line in first place following stiff competition from the world’s elite riders, especially those from the UAE. His teammate Abdulrahman Al Zayed finished third, while Maria of Portugal came second with fourth place going to Saif Al Mazrouei of the UAE.
Bahrain also enjoyed more success in the 120km race sweeping the podium with Mohammed Al Hashemi taking first place, followed by teammates Shahad Waleed Al Ahmad and Nasser Al Qahtani.
There was more joy for the kingdom as young rider Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa produced a great performance to complete the race.
Shaikh Nasser confirmed that his success was largely due to the support extended to equestrian by the King as well as the interest of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
“We have developed a vision to upgrade the Windsor Equestrian Championship by adding the 160km race in light of the keenness of the countries to compete at this distance which represents a great addition for the riders, considering that there are many jockeys who will be participating in the upcoming World Championship,” he said.
“The results at Windsor will be a great driver for the Royal Endurance team to continue on the same path in order to achieve further successes in events overseas,” Shaikh Nasser added.
