His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Royal Endurance Team captain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday led the last training session of the team ahead of the Windsor Equestrian Championship.
Shaikh Nasser met the riders of the team after yesterday’s veterinary examination, and he also witnessed the jockeys’ weigh-in process. Present was Supreme Council for the Environment vice-president and Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Nasser will spearhead the Royal Endurance Team riders in the 160km race that will be held for the first time in the championship. The team will also take part in other races, including the 120km race for the public, the 120km race for juniors and the 100km race.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Raed Mahmoud, Mohammed Abdulsamad Al Bastaki, Sarhan Humaid Al Enzi and Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Zayed will compete in the 160km race under the leadership of Shaikh Nasser.
Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Salman Isa, Othman Al Awadhi, Hamad Isa Al Janahi, Khalid Yousef, Nasser Al Qahtani, Mohammed Abdulhameed Al Hashemi and Shahad Waleed will take part in the 120km race for the public while Isa Hameed Al Enzi, Hamad Hilal Al Khateri, Abdullah Hassan Al Ruwaie and Ahmed Khalid Al Thawadi will compete in the 120km juniors’ race. Mohammed Khalid Al Ruwaie will race in the 100km contest.
Shaikh Nasser said that the championship is one of the most important annual competitions in which the Royal Endurance Team participates, highlighting the fierce competition it features.
“We are eyeing top places in this edition and are also trying to meet the objectives we have set out for participating in this event. Achieving positive results will confirm the high position of Bahraini endurance sport and its development with the support of His Majesty. We have reached these levels in this sport thanks to the interest and follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.”
