TENNIS – EGYPTIAN Khaled Ibrahim will take on Ramadan Otkay, of Türkiye, today in the boys’ singles final of the first tournament of the International Tennis Federation U-18 Championship for the J30 category, organised by the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) at its courts in Isa Town.
The tournament will conclude today with the girls’ singles final between Romanian Ioana Pouyanne and Russian Samira Rashidova.
The boys’ singles semi-finals were relatively one-sided affairs with Khaled beating Jordanian Zaid Shelbaya 6-2, 6-2, while Ramadan defeated his Russian rival Rafael Asdaddin 6-0, 6-2.
In the girls’ singles semi-finals, Romania’s Ioana overcame Irina Khaendrova, of Russia, 6-4, 6-3 in an absorbing clash, while Samira qualified for the final after compatriot Milana Konovalova withdrew due to injury.
Meanwhile, the boys’ and girls’ doubles competitions concluded yesterday with Turkish duo Ramadan and Akoto Biberli taking the boys’ title after defeating the pair of Jordanian Zaid and Austrian Harmut Fiedler 7-5, 6-0.
In the girls’ doubles final, Romanians Ioana and Simon Chocó beat the American pairing of Eva Khalil and Casey Morrow 6-4, 6-4.
BTF members Mohammed Salman and Adnan Kamal, and chief referee of the tournament Ahmed Al Hawaj presented medals to the winners and the runners-up.
