Created by British writer Jez Scharf, Bodkin promises to be a captivating blend of dark comedy and suspenseful thriller.
The seven-episode series follows a group of amateur podcasters who stumble upon a cold case while investigating local folklore in a seemingly idyllic Irish coastal town.
According to the show’s creator: “Bodkin is a show about the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface of seemingly perfect places. It’s about the secrets we keep, the stories we tell ourselves, and the lengths we’ll go to protect them.”
As Gilbert (Will), Dove (Siobhán Cullen) and Emmy (Robyn Cara) delve deeper into the unsolved disappearance of three strangers, their investigation uncovers a web of secrets, hidden agendas, and a darkness lurking beneath the town’s picturesque facade.

The concept of amateur sleuths dealing with a dark and unsettling mystery is reminiscent of shows like Only Murders in the Building and The Afterparty.
While comparisons to existing shows are inevitable, Bodkin’s unique blend of humour, suspense, and Irish charm suggests a fresh perspective on the dark comedy thriller genre. The series has the potential to appeal to viewers seeking a show that balances suspense with witty dialogue and a touch of local flavour.
Principal photography began in West Cork in the summer of 2022, and took place over the course of six months. Other filming locations included Wicklow and Dublin.
