ENDURANCE – MARIAM Nawaf Kamal won the His Majesty the King’s Cup for junior and youth riders as the activities of His Majesty the King’s Cup Endurance Ride Festival, organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef), commenced at the Bahrain International Endurance Village yesterday.
The Al Zaeem Team rider was followed by Mohammed Al Ruwaie, of Team Victorious, in second place, and his teammate Nasser Al Manaei finished third in the 120km race.
His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian works and youth affairs and Breef honorary president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa followed the race in Sakhir, providing the participants useful tips to improve their performance.
Breef president Shaikh Isa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa honoured the top three winners in the presence of Breef secretary Ghaleb Al Alawi, Breef assistant secretary Dr Khalid Ahmed Hassan, and Tawfeeq Al Salehi, director of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Media Office and Information Centre, who is also the head of the Media, Public Relations and Marketing Committee at Breef.
The grand races for HM the King’s Endurance Cups will take place today. They include an international race, covering a distance of 160km, and a 120km race for private stables. Moreover, local races will be hosted too, covering 40km and 80km. The private stables’ race will feature the best horse condition award, while the festival will conclude with honouring the winners of the 160km race.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Nasser directed the distribution of BD50,000 to the local stables participating in the local private stables race. The directives come as part of Shaikh Nasser’s keenness to support the private stables in the prestigious festival. The cash prizes will be distributed to the stables from first to 20th place, in appreciation of their significant role in enriching the Bahraini endurance racing scene.
