HORSERACING – Chronograh, owned by Al Adiyat Racing, clinched the Al Sharif Group Cup after winning the fifth race of the 17th event of the season at the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) yesterday.
The winner, trained by AM Smith and ridden by Gerald Mosse, powered past second-placed Rollajam, of Victorious, and third-placed Panning For Gold, of Al Mohamediya Racing, in the 2,200m race for imported horses.
Later, Nomadic Empire, of Al Mohamediya Racing, emerged winner in the 1,200m seventh race for imported horses to claim the Al Sharif Group Cup. Redemption Time, of Adiyat Racing, finished second while Celtic Champion, of Al Mohamediya Racing, was third.
Son Of Zous, of M and E Racing, won the eighth race of the day to clinch the Crown Industries Cup while Haddar, of Al Mohamediya Racing, claimed the Al Sharif Group Cup after sealing victory in the sixth race.
The fourth race, for the Southern Governorate Cup, was won by Jbarah, of Al Afoo Racing while Royal Scimitar, of Al Mohamediya Racing, claimed victory in the third race for the Crown Industries Cup.
Bussento, of Al Mohamediya Racing, won the second race of the day for the Southern Governorate Cup and Al Krush 1887, of Al Riffa, bagged the Al Wasmiya Cup after winning the opening race.
The races were held in the presence of Supreme Council for Environment vice president and REHC deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa and Southern Governor Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Khalifa presented the Southern Governorate Cup to the owners of the second and fourth race winners Shaikh Sultan AlDeen bin Mohammad bin Salman Al Khalifa and Ebrahim Al Afoo.
Isa Al Sharif presented the Al Sharif Group Cup to the winning jockey of the fifth round, Gerald Mosse, while Hussein Al Sharif and Hassan Al Sharif presented the sixth and seventh round trophies to the winning owner Shaikh Sultan AlDeen bin Mohammad bin Salman Al Khalifa.
Ali Al Saad, managing director of Crown Industries, presented the third round trophy to Shaikh Sultan AlDeen bin Mohammad bin Salman Al Khalifa while Mohammed Najibi, Crown Industries representative, presented the eighth round trophy to Shaikh Isa bin Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Yusuf Osama Buheji, CEO of REHC, presented the Al Wasmiya Cup to the winning trainer’s assistant Raed Al Boainain.
