Under Qatari laws, a man could face a maximum of six months in prison and a fine ranging from QR1,000 to QR10,000.
An Arab national was seen carrying a tiger in a street in the Qatari capital Doha.
A video footage was widely shared on Twitter, in which the wild animal walked along a packed motorway in Rayan area.
One of a series of the photographs shows an Arab national in white thobe and cap holding the tiger’s chain, seemingly having captured it.
The incident was recorded by someone sitting in a vehicle.
Tigers have not been native in the Middle East since the Caspian tiger extinct in the 1970s, so the animal is likely to be an escaped pet.
The trade in endangered wildlife remains a problem in the Gulf, where owning expensive exotic pets, especially big cats, is the ultimate status symbol.
