A hot air balloon made an unexpected descent in Bower Street in the east of England town of Bedford after its pilot made a split-second decision, narrowly avoiding cables and chimney stacks on Saturday.
The balloon, originally headed for Russell Park, had drifted towards the narrow street, resulting in an emergency landing.
Video footage taken by witnesses show how the balloon avoided several objects, including cars and wires, as it came down.
Multiple bystanders rushed to help the pilot, who threw out an emergency line to land the balloon in a safe spot.
Georgia Balac, whose partner was one of those who assisted, described the incident to the Bedford Independent, stating that the balloon came down ‘quickly and uncontrollably’.
“It made a near-perfect landing between parked cars on either side,” she said.
The British Balloon and Airship Club later confirmed to the BBC that the balloon had ‘landed without incident’ and that all of the individuals involved were safe.
