An Indian vlogger has pulled off one of the most remarkable marketing stunts of the year.
Shafeek Hashim, a travel vlogger from the Indian state of Kerala, has started renting out advertising space on his bald head – effectively turning himself into a walking billboard.
Hashim’s idea has already begun paying dividends – he has just signed a Rs50,000 (BD218) deal to temporarily tattoo the logo of a hair and skin clinic onto his scalp.
The deal stipulates that the logo will remain on his scalp for three months and also requires Hashim to make three YouTube videos that prominently feature the advertisement.
Hashim is the creator of the YouTube channel ‘70 MM Vlogs’, which currently has 27,000 subscribers.
According to reports, Hashim came up with the idea while considering a hair transplant.
“After deep thought, I realised baldness is natural, and there is no shame in it. I decided to embrace it and turn it into a creative opportunity,” he said.
“I believe I am the first person in India – maybe even the world – to rent out my bald head for brand advertising. This is not about going viral. It is about changing how society views body image and showing that confidence can turn perceived flaws into strengths,” he added.
The temporary tattoo can be removed using chemicals.
