The UAE emirate of Sharjah has launched a set of smart traffic lights that use technology to adjust traffic signal timings according to traffic volume.
Using a system of sensors that monitor traffic, the signal system would allow drivers to pass through multiple green lights without stopping, provided they maintain a certain speed or if the roads are empty.
The system aims to reduce traffic congestion during peak hours, decrease wait times, and cut emissions caused by frequent starting and stopping.
