TENNIS – THE ITF World Junior Tennis Competition Asia-Oceania Qualifiers Girls got underway with an opening ceremony yesterday at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town.
The event, which features 18 under-14 girls’ teams, is being organised and run by the BTF in co-operation with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Asian Tennis Federation.
The host Bahrainis are being represented in the tournament by the trio of Maryam Al Abbasi, Sofia Badr, and Layal Bassem.
Bahrain are in Group A for this stage along with Sri Lanka and Singapore. Group B is composed of Lebanon, Mongolia, and Jordan, while Group C comprises Turkmenistan, Pacific Oceania, and Bangladesh. Group D features Oman, the Maldives, and Macau, Group E includes Kyrgyzstan, Syria, and the Philippines, and Group F is composed of Indonesia, Guam, and Iraq.
BTF president Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa welcomed the participating teams and wished them a pleasant stay in the kingdom.
Shaikh Abdulaziz stressed that the BTF is proud of the confidence they enjoy from the ITF by granting it the hosting of a series of international tournaments for juniors over the past several weeks.
Bahrain previously successfully staged J30 events on the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors’ 2025 calendar, featuring under-18 players.
