A Brazilian couple met in 1936, got married in 1940 at the chapel of Boa Ventura in Ceará, Brazil, and are still happily married today!
Manoel Angelim Dino, aged 105, and his 101-year-old wife, Maria de Sousa Dino, were officially awarded the Guinness World Records title holder for the longest marriage for a living couple, with an astonishing 84 years and 80 days of togetherness!
Although Manoel fell in love at first sight, Maria’s family initially opposed their marriage.
However, a determined Manuel started building a home for his future family, and eventually, the pair were able to marry.
The couple have since raised 13 children (nine of which are still living), and have 55 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren and still counting!
According to Maria, the only ‘secret’ to a long and happy marriage is love!
The longest marriage recorded was between Canadian couple Sarah Davy Hiller and David Jacob Hiller, who wed in 1809. It lasted 88 years and 349 days.
