CRICKET – THE Abraj SuperGiants defeated the Abraj Violets by 44 runs in an exciting week 14 encounter of the Abraj Premier League (APL5) to secure a spot in the tournament finals.
The SuperGiants now look forward to their showdown against the Abraj Rocking Royals for the coveted championship title.
The APL5 is sponsored by Mega Contracting, Desi Zaika, Weather Cool, and AAL Association.
Winning the toss, the SuperGiants chose to bat first. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, they kept the scoreboard ticking, reaching 75/4 by the 10th over.
Tarun Parihar played a sensational knock, remaining unbeaten on 80 off 34 balls. He was well supported by Shrawan Soni, who contributed 35 runs off 21 balls. Together, they helped the SuperGiants set a competitive total of 184/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Sanito Dsilva also made an important contribution with a quickfire 24 from just 11 balls.
Violets bowlers Lauv Lahoti and Deepesh Madan were the pick of the bowlers, each claiming two wickets. Hari Krishna and Sapan Jain also took one wicket each, but despite their efforts, they were unable to prevent the SuperGiants from posting a challenging score.
In reply, the Violets started their chase aggressively, reaching 38/1 by the end of the fourth over.
However, the SuperGiants’ bowlers kept the pressure on. Though several Violets batters got starts – Ashwani Bhatia (25), Lauv Lahoti (24), Hari Krishna (16), Sapan Jain (15), Rahul Dantkale (13), and Krunal Nanavati (10) – none could convert them into a match-winning innings. The Violets were ultimately bowled out for 140 runs in 19.1 overs.
Shrawan Soni was the star with the ball for the SuperGiants, claiming two wickets. Anuj Somani, Vali Shaik, Sanito Dsilva, Parihar, Chetan Dongra, and Deepak Bhakuni all took one wicket each, ensuring a disciplined bowling performance.
Parihar’s all-round brilliance earned him another Most Valuable Player of the Match award.
