BAHRAIN Olympic Committee (BOC) vice-president and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) vice-president for the third Asian Youth Games Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa arrived yesterday in the Chinese city of Harbin to attend the opening ceremony of the eighth Asian Winter Games.
The multi-sport event features nearly 1,300 athletes from 34 countries.
Shaikh Isa expressed his great pride in attending the Asian Winter Games, which are being supervised by the OCA, and stressed the importance of such occasions in strengthening ties between sports men and women from across the continent.
Shaikh Isa noted his delight with Bahrain’s ongoing participation in the men’s ice hockey tournament in Harbin, which follows their debut in the Asian Winter Games in 2011.
Shaikh Isa highlighted that their participation reflects the efforts of the BOC, headed by Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and BOC president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa to develop sports in Bahrain, including winter sports, and ensure Bahrain’s representation in competitions of all levels.
Among those on hand to welcome Shaikh Isa upon his arrival were BOC executive director Ahmed Abdulghaffar, BOC Arab and international relations director Fajer Jassim Mohamed, and BOC Arab and international relations head Maryam Mardana, among other officials.
