GOLF – Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) announced yesterday a project to establish a world-class golf course designed by Spanish golf star and former Major champion Sergio Garcia.
This is part of REHC’s development plans and efforts to enhance the kingdom’s position as a leading destination for sports tourism.
The project agreement was signed by REHC CEO Yusuf Osama Buheji, Bareeq Al Retaj Real Estate Company CEO Yousif Bucheeri, and Garcia, who is also the brand ambassador of the course.
The agreement includes the preparation and implementation of the design of the world-class golf course project, which will be established within the general development plan of the club.
On the occasion, Buheji stressed the importance of the golf course project as one of the strategic initiatives that receives the attention of REHC’s High Committee, chaired by Isa Bin Salman Education Charitable Trust chairman and Labour Fund (Tamkeen) chairman Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Such efforts aim to establish more diverse development projects in all fields that contribute to making the club a leading and comprehensive destination, therefore supporting the sports and tourism sectors and attracting investments that contribute to advancing Bahrain’s economic development.
For his part, Bucheeri expressed his pride in Bareeq Al Retaj Real Estate Company’s involvement in this world-class golf course project, which is set to be a prestigious venue in the kingdom.
It will also constitute a qualitative addition that contributes to enhancing the remarkable development of REHC and its great success in hosting international horseracing championships.
The project will contribute to further enhancing Bahrain’s position as a destination for hosting international events and championships of various sports, including golf.
Bucheeri pointed out that the new golf course at the club will be one of the largest golf courses in the kingdom and it will consist of 18 holes. Also, it will be developed according to latest international specifications.
As part of this partnership, Garcia visited Bahrain, during which he was briefed on the plan and design of the golf course at REHC. He also completed technical discussions and discussed ways to enhance media and promotional partnership for the project.
Garcia is one of the world’s most prominent golf stars. He began his professional career in 1999 and has a record that includes 36 international championships, most notably the 2008 Players Championship and the 2017 Masters Tournament, in addition to being second in the Official World Golf Rankings.
The course to be developed at REHC is the latest announced for the kingdom in recent months.
An 18-hole golf course is also set to be established at Al Areen by Al Areen Holding Company, which has entered into an agreement with Olazabal Design, the golf course design company of Spanish star José María Olazábal.
These projects continue to cement Bahrain’s status as an attractive destination for sports tourism, especially for golf.
The kingdom just hosted over the weekend the 2025 Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, part of the DP World Tour, at the Royal Golf Club, Riffa Views.
It attracted 132 world-class players from 29 countries, including three former Major champions.
