MOTORSPORT – Bahraini-British GT team 2 Seas Motorsport are set for a return to competition this weekend in the 2024-25 Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS) – the continent’s premier endurance racing championship.
The ALMS is run by the organisers of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, and it holds six races this campaign.
The upcoming meeting is set to be held at Dubai Autodrome in the UAE this Friday to Sunday. It will feature two four-hour races, which will be the third and fourth events of the championship.
2 Seas, co-owned by Shaikh Isa bin Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, are making their first competitive appearance of 2025 this week.
They are set to be one of 47 cars hitting the track, with their three-driver crew of American Anthony McIntosh, Canadian Parker Thompson, and Briton Ben Barnicoat sharing the duties in their #96 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
2 Seas will be part of a packed grid of 30 GT contenders, with the rest of the field featuring 10 LMP2 cars and seven LMP3 challengers.
This weekend, there will be a pair of practice sessions on Friday – one each in the morning and the early evening. Qualifying is then set for Saturday morning with the first four-hour race flagging off later that afternoon. The second event of the meeting will then be held on Sunday afternoon.
Heading to Dubai, 2 Seas are currently in ninth place on the 2024-25 Teams’ Championship standings in the GT class. They have a total of eight points, scored from the first two rounds of the campaign held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia in December of last year.
Winward Racing from Germany are in first place with 35 points, followed by AF Corse from Italy on 28 and Car Guy from Japan in third with 25. Winward are also racing in a Mercedes-AMG GT3, while both AF Corse and Car Guy compete in Ferrari 296 GT3 cars.
In preparation for this round, 2 Seas completed a busy testing schedule at Dubai Autodrome.
Following this weekend’s events, there will be no time to rest for the 2 Seas crew, as the season’s last two races will then take place at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on February 15 and 16.
Teams are competing in the ALMS not only for championship glory, but also for invitations to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans later this year – one of the biggest and most prestigious events in all of motorsport.
The champions of both the LMP2 and GT classes will be awarded invites to be a part of the iconic event in Le Mans, France, which is a part of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
The ALMS was created by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), which also organises the WEC.
