ATHLETICS – BAHRAIN’S Paris 2024 Olympics silver-medallist Salwa Eid Naser had a sensational start to her athletics season with a victory in the women’s 500 metres in the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic, held in Boston, Massachusetts, in the US.
The prestigious meeting was an indoor event held as part of the World Athletics calendar.
Naser claimed her victory in style, winning with the eighth-fastest time ever over the distance – run along a short track – of one minute 08.34 seconds.
She crossed the finish line with a comfortable gap from runner-up Gloria Guerrier of Haiti, who finished in 1:12.21, while Polly Bogdan of the US came third in 1:16.80.
Naser is one of the kingdom’s leading professional track and field stars. Aside from being an Olympic medallist, she is also a former world champion and a Diamond League Final winner.
The 26-year-old is expected to be one of Bahrain’s best medal hopefuls at the 2025 World Championships, scheduled to take place this September in Japan.
