Henan Mine, a crane company in China, rewarded its workers with 60 million yuan (BD3 million) in cash during an annual meeting on January 25. This payment is part of 100 million yuan (BD5 million) in year-end employee bonuses.
In a video posted on social media, employees gather around a long table with cash spread on top and have 15 minutes to count as much money as possible.
Reports say the founder added an extra 20 million yuan (BD1 million) on the spot, raising the total prize amount from 40 million yuan (BD2 million) to 60 million yuan (BD3 million).
A team of 30 people were tasked with choosing two employees who could count the fastest. These two employees had to count as much cash as possible in 15 minutes. If the amount was right, they could keep all the money they counted, which would be shared equally with their teammates. The two participants would also receive an extra 100 yuan (about BD5) for their involvement.
If they miscounted any cash, the bonus would be deducted.
The founder said the money-counting activity was meant to "add fun" to the meeting.
