A Chinese man living in a two-storey house refused to relocate for the construction of a new highway, so they built it around him.
Chinese authorities offered Huang Ping, a resident of Jinxi, a town west of Shanghai, 1.6 million yuan (BD 83,000) and three replacement properties to purchase his house.
However, he refused the deal, hoping for a better offer. Unfortunately, the authorities did not negotiate and instead built the wall around him.
Huang now has to navigate in and out of his property via a concrete pipe amidst the constant noise of cars zooming by.
The house quickly turned into a small tourist attraction due to its unusual situation, yet Huang remarks that he regrets not taking the offer.
“If I could turn back time, I would agree to the demolition conditions they offered,” he told Chinese reporters
“Now it feels like I lost a big bet. I regret it a bit.”
