An exciting programme of more than 100 events is set to be held as part of this year’s Bahrain Sports Day festivities.
This was announced yesterday in a media conference hosted by the General Sports Authority (GSA) and Bahrain Sports for All Federation (BSAF), held at the National Stadium in Riffa.
Bahrain Sports Day will be headlined by a main event, which is scheduled to take place in the second half of February, it was also revealed.
This grand national occasion is being organised in implementation of the directives of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, GSA chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
In attendance at yesterday conference were GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) business development and licensing director Majeed Al Majed, Muharraq Governorate information and follow-up director Fawaz Al Abdulla, BSAF representative Sameer Abdulqader, and Dallah Promotions founding partner Khalid Bukhari.
Dr Askar expressed his thanks and gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the government’s support for the kingdom’s sports sector and for the attention given to Bahrain Sports Day.
Dr Askar stressed that Shaikh Khalid has directed to hold the main event of Bahrain Sports Day in a different governorate each year to ensure everyone’s participation in the national event. It will therefore take place in the Galali area of the Muharraq Governorate next month, with at least 115 events making up the programme.
Bahrain Sports Day is not limited to athletes but is open to everyone, Dr Askar highlighted. It is to take place this year under the slogan ‘Be an Athlete’.
The GSA will be launching a special calendar that includes all the activities that will take place as part of Bahrain Sports Day, with the main event featuring a diverse programme of sports and entertainment.
Meanwhile, Al Abdulla said that the Muharraq Governorate is pleased to host Bahrain Sports Day’s main event within the framework of co-operation with the GSA and BSAF. He pointed out that the governorate will harness all its capabilities to make this occasion a success.
For his part, Al Majed noted that the partnership with the GSA and BSAF is in line with the BTEA’s efforts to promote sports tourism, which is considered one of the pillars of the 2022-2026 Tourism Strategy.
Meanwhile, Bukhari extended his thanks and gratitude to Shaikh Khalid for his support of the ‘Unity Kickoff – Play for a Cause’ charity football match, which is also part of the Bahrain Sports Day programme.
This highly anticipated exhibition game is scheduled for January 31 at the National Stadium in Riffa, and it will feature more than 12 international football icons in addition to a number of social media influencers from different parts of the world.
Stars of Bahrain’s senior men’s football national team, who recently won the 26th Gulf Cup title, are also set to take part in the event.
Abdulqader noted that the BSAF is proud to work with the GSA on this event and they are keen on making it a success.
