GOLF – A new 18-hole golf course is set to be developed at Al Areen.
Real estate developer Al Areen Holding Company has entered into an agreement with Olazabal Design, the golf course design company of Spanish star golfer José María Olazábal.
Its previous notable work includes the Olympic and Hills courses at Costa Navarino in Greece, the Education City Golf Club in Qatar and Royal Sevilla Golf in Spain.
The proposed Bahrain golf course will span approximately 1.4 million square metres.
Al Areen Holding Company CEO Dr Ahlam Zainal said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Olazabal Design, a leading global golf course designer, to integrate a world-class course into our flagship project.
“This development represents a significant step toward our vision of establishing Al Areen as a distinguished tourism and residential destination, enhancing Bahrain’s status as a global tourism hotspot.
“We anticipate that this course will attract more tourists and residents, thereby bolstering economic growth in the area.”
Olazabal Design managing partner Matthias Nemes said the company was “proud to collaborate” with Al Areen Holding Company “on this exceptional project”.
“The land´s natural beauty is simply breathtaking and we could not be more excited to design a top international golf course on this extraordinary terrain,” he added.
“Our intention is to honour the neighbouring wildlife reserve and let its serenity serve as inspiration for our design.”
The cost of the golf course project or the proposed timeframe for completing it were not revealed in yesterday’s statement.
Fifty-eight-year-old Olazábal heralds from the Basque country and has enjoyed success on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour and notched 30 professional wins, including two major championships, both at the US Masters.
