Team Bahrain Victorious’ participation in the Tre Valli Varesine race in Italy was cut short yesterday due to harsh weather conditions.
The team were set to compete with seven riders, but were already two men down before the start after Damiano Caruso and Antonio Tiberi withdrew due to a stomach bug, the team said.
Wout Poels, Vlad van Mechelen, Andrea Pasqualon, Torstein Traen, and Santiago Buitrago went on to race, but due to heavy rain, it was suspended and ultimately cancelled after 57.9km completed.
The event was part of the UCI Pro Series, and was seen as an ideal preparation for Bahrain Victorious ahead of the ‘Il Lombardia’, one-day event on Saturday, which will be the penultimate meeting on this year’s UCI WorldTour.
