ATHLETICS – BAHRAIN is set to host the One Run Half-Marathon, the largest event of its kind in the world.
It will be taking place tomorrow night under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Organised by the GSA in co-operation with the Hero League from Russia and the Bahrain Road Runners (BRR), the race will start from Exhibition World Bahrain in Zallaq.
Participants will have four distances to choose from in their run, including the complete 21.1km half-marathon, 10km, 5km, and one km.
Ahead of the event, the GSA held a Press conference at Isa Sports City in Riffa, attended by GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, GSA legal affairs and licensing department director Mohammed Salman, BRR vice-chairman Khalifa Najem, Hero League representative Denis Annikov, and other officials.
Askar said that Bahrain is one of 16 countries across the globe participating in the run, which will help further promote the kingdom as a world-class sporting destination.
The other One Run races around the world are to be held the same day, which will see the participation of more than 160,000 runners, making it the biggest half-marathon.
