HONOURING – Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has asserted that the Khalid Bin Hamad Gold Generation League, launched by GSA in the 2022-23 season, aims to build a solid base of athletes who are capable of competing at the highest levels in various sports, as well as promote the sports culture and fair competition among younger generations.
It also aims to prepare a promising generation of athletes who are physically, technically, and mentally capable of representing clubs and national teams to achieve honourable achievements for the nation in various external competitions, Shaikh Khalid added.
Shaikh Khalid made the statements while receiving yesterday the winning clubs and individuals of the league for the previous season, in the presence of representatives of sports federations, clubs, and a number of senior officials.
Shaikh Khalid praised the success of the first edition of the league in which seven federations participated in the youth category, praising the excellent organisation of the competitions, creating suitable conditions for the players to acquire many skills and experiences in the technical, skill and media aspects, in light of the efforts made by the federations, clubs and the executive management of the GSA.
He pointed out that the league will contribute to preparing a generation whose members are familiar with the culture of sportsmanship, fair competition, co-operation, one-team cohesion, and collective work, noting that it also aims to create a generation of prominent talented athletes who will be able to attain landmark achievements at external sporting championships.
Shaikh Khalid congratulated all the clubs that had won top places in the football, volleyball, handball, basketball, athletics, table tennis, and cycling competitions, wishing the rest success in the second edition of the league, which has already started.
He called for building on the success of the first edition to ensure that the 2023-24 edition will be more distinguished.
