The set production for the upcoming Margot Robbie starter 'Barbie' used so much pink paint and pigment that they singlehandedly caused a pink colour shortage around the world, according to the movie's set decorators Katie Spencer and Sarah Greenwood.
During an interview with Architectural Digest, Greenwood said that while constructing the set “maintaining the ‘kid-ness' was paramount.” And that she “wanted the pinks to be very bright, and everything to be almost too much”.
She also said that the amount of pink paint used during the construction caused a worldwide shortage.
According to Rosco, one of the leading producers of paint for use in filming, their stock of paint had already been low due to supply chain issues during the pandemic. So, the 2022 production of the 'Barbie' movie did contribute to the shortage of pink paint around the world.
