Bahraini Mohammed Isa Al Qais was crowned champion of the Gulf Triathlon Championship held on the sidelines of the Ironman 70.3 in Salalah, Oman, and taking second place in the Ironman challenge.
The Kingdom of Bahrain Triathlon Racing Team athlete demonstrated his abilities and potential to claim the Gulf Triathlon Championship, while his exemplary performance sealed second place clocking four hours 26 minutes 27 seconds in the Ironman championship with more than 700 competitors in the fray.
There were 18 competitors participating in the Gulf championship.
Al Qais finished 7:20.06 behind the winner, Frenchman Etienne Tillon who finished in 4:19:01, while the UK’s David took third place.
In the women’s competition, Bahrain’s May Alhaji clinched first place in the Gulf Women’s Championship, while Roya Adel finished the race in second place.
Bahrain Triathlon Association president Abdulla Abdulsalam congratulated the prize winners.
Abdulsalam stressed that the achievement of Al Qais, Alhaji and Adel is the fruit of the patronage of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s representative for humanitarian works and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS)chairman, as well as SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Abdulsalam praised the efforts exerted by Al Qais, Alhaji and Adel along with all the other participants, the fruit of which was to achieve honourable results in the competition, stressing the pursuit of the desired results in all championships and races in which the champions of Bahrain participate.
