CYBERSECURITY is rapidly becoming a global priority for governments and businesses, a field that is currently witnessing a significant shortage of skilled professionals, with 3.5 million positions unfilled worldwide.
To fill this gap, SANS Institute, in partnership with Tamkeen, have launched the Cyber Reskilling Academy which aims to identify and rapidly re-skill individuals for roles in cybersecurity in just eight weeks.
The programme, which was launched last month, enables students to undertake up to three SANS training courses.
Additionally, they will also receive soft skills development and industry guidance to ensure that they are immediately deployable within the cybersecurity workforce.
Successful graduates will complete the programme with two Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) certifications – GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) and GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH).
Founded in 1999 to validate the skills of information security professionals, GIAC provides assurance that a certified individual has the knowledge and skills necessary for a practitioner in key areas of computer, information and software security.
Students are taught using material from SANS’ training courses, through real-life, practical simulations and team exercises.
The programme is helpful for jobseekers who are new to cybersecurity; individuals who are considering starting their own businesses, or wanting to improve their current skillsets as well as those employed in an IT role, who wish to specialise or transfer to cybersecurity.
Previous programmes by SANS have seen 90 per cent of academy graduates employed within just six months from graduation, with students going on to secure roles with organisations such as JP Morgan Chase, PwC, Deloitte, HP, Vodafone, Virgin, and BAE Systems.
The training programme is fully supported by Tamkeen and offered at no cost to candidates.
Students will receive support to aid in their transition into employment and employers will also engage with students during training, through careers fairs and employer-hosted evenings, with the aim of developing skills and improving employability.
Founded in 1989, SANS is the largest and most trusted provider of cybersecurity education in the world – providing high-quality training, certifications, scholarship academies, schools programmes, degree programmes, cyber ranges and resources to meet the needs of every cyber professional and those keen to enter the profession.
As the global leader in cybersecurity training, SANS brings knowledge, expertise, credibility and experience in delivering national cyber training programmes.
The new initiative with Tamkeen will train and reskill hundreds of Bahrainis in the field of cybersecurity, further enhancing the competitiveness of Bahrainis locally and internationally, in line with Tamkeen’s key objective of enabling Bahrainis to become the first choice of employment in private sector enterprises.
The programme is open to those aged 18 and above, who are able to attend the full duration of the course in person and are available for employment following successful graduation.
