His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa received Second Lieutenant Abdulla Al Sayed Attiya, who presented the Guinness World Records certificate he won after breaking the world record during the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa was present.
Royal Guard officer Second Lieutenant Attiya entered the Guinness World Records for running the entire marathon in full military uniform.
He won the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon in three hours, 40 minutes and seven seconds, smashing the record held by a British athlete since 2009 (3:49:21).
Second Lieutenant Attiya thanked Shaikh Nasser for supporting him during and after the race, which motivated him to run to victory, smash the world record and enter the record book.
Shaikh Nasser affirmed that the achievement confirms the determination and strength of Bahraini youth to overcome all challenges to reach their ambition of making the country proud and enhancing Bahrain’s standing in various international arenas. He added that Second Lieutenant Attiya was able to set an amazing example.
“Second Lieutenant Attiya’s achievement is a source of pride and inspiration for Bahraini youth in overcoming challenges and turning them into starting points to achieve goals,” he said.
He pledged to spare no efforts to help Bahrain attain further achievements and shed light on its landmark strides across all fields.
