The Wilayat of Quriyat in Oman recorded the highest night-time temperature ever recorded in its history, at 42.6 degrees Celsius on June 27, Oman’s Meteorology Department confirmed on Sunday, Times of Oman reported.
"The temperature was probably even higher at other locations, but wasn't recorded because there are no monitoring stations in these areas," said an official of the Meteorology Department at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation
He said that the dry northwesterly winds that passed a heatwave coming from the Empty Quarter desert led to the highest temperature during night peaked at 42.6 degrees Celsius.
Other areas in Quriyat could have recorded even higher temperatures than this, but there are no temperature monitoring stations in these areas. This was the highest temperature recorded at night.
Last week, day temperature hit 50 degrees before dropping to the 45 and 44 degrees Celsius range over the past few days due to the existence of warm and wet southeasterly winds coming from the Arabian Sea.
